Official Minutes of the Annual
Meeting Saturday, 13 October 2001 Respectfully submitted by The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Association President Steve Finkle. 24 members were in attendance. It was noted at least a dozen more were present during the day but were not at the meeting. Minutes from October 2000 have been posted on the website for the past year. Minutes were approved. Treasurer’s Report: Stewart Young
Old Business: A discussion of the progress of recolonization efforts was initiated by Brother Finkle. Brothers Finkle, Lobstein, and Young met with Executive Director Larry Wiese in May. KA National office still plans to make another presentation to the Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) at Murray State. No date is set, but it could be as early as this spring. The IFC has to support and be willing to accept another presentation. The National Order wants the university to invite us to come with support from IFC. New MSU President Kearn wrote a letter saying we were welcome, should return to campus, and encouraged Greek diversity. The IFC, who perhaps don’t see much growth in their numbers, must have some incentive to greenlight our re-entry to campus without feeling threatened, which they evidently were at our last pitch in March 2000. Brother David Ruth spoke about starting a local fraternity on our own, as was the case 32 years ago when the founding members organized and later became a KA colony. Others expressed support of asking someone active in the Murray community to lobby the IFC or University, or bring in prominent KA’s to speak to the IFC about the strengths KA brings to their ranks. Several strategies were rehashed from last meeting. A motion was made to form a committee to lobby the IFC. It was later withdrawn in favor of the current officers continuing to meet and follow up with KA National. New Business: The annual KA Cussin’ Duffers Golf Tournament was held Saturday morning at Miller golf course. Impressive trophies were presented to the winning teams:
Brother Lobstein spoke about taking this fun event up a notch to a fund raising level with hole sponsors, corporate support, etc. The first "Rockin’ Reelin’ Fishing Tournament" had to be canceled due to weather. Brother Bowers asked for interest and support of a late winter or spring Florida fishing weekend. Need at least 6 guys, or three to four couples. The Delta Nu website continues to be very popular, particularly leading up to Homecoming. Keep in touch with and leave messages for your brothers in the ‘Virtual Back Room’. Brothers expressed gratitude and support to Brother Finkle for his development of this medium and the many hours required to maintain it. Although weather forced the relocation of this year’s activities to the Calloway Inn, the consensus was to try again next year with a cookout and other activities at the former site of the KA house. Suggestions are welcome on the website. Election of Officers Nominations for officers of the WKAA were taken from the floor. Bro. Buel Stalls moved to nominate the existing slate of officers. The motion was seconded and it passed. The previous year's officers were elected by voice vote for the upcoming year:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.
